Three days late and I haven't done a HAPPY 40th KYLIE post. The shame.

I have a good enough reason, because I've been very busy working, like Kylie who is currently touring Europe thin with her show KYLIEX2008. A show that I'm is spectacular and I can't wait to see it live here in Copenhagen on the 8th. Only 9 days to go, I knew how to make a countdown clock I would. Anyway Kylie is probably too busy to swing by my blog these days but naturally we speak on the phone ALL the time (tee-hee).

This post is not about me, it's about Kylie as it was her birthday. You'd be glad to know she had the night off and spent it with family and friends in Germany. Her parents Ron and Carol flew in from Melbourne, Australia and her sister Dannii flew in from London to be with her on this very special day. Good times were had and is now back to the business at hand. Touring, and of course she's looking forward to another fabulous year.

I've got a package for you

It was one of those Saturday nights where I just wanted a drink or two. So naturally I opened a bottle of wine and sat down in front of the TV and watched a movie. It could have been any old movie, and it was. It was "Just Friends" starring Ryan (oh my god you are hot) Reynolds. Let's be honest it's not a brilliant movie and if it wasn't for the bottle of wine I would never have finished it. Still as long as there was alcohol it went down fine.

Once the movie was over boredom settled in despite my giggling trip to the kitchen attempting not to drop the empty bottle. Then I got a great idea. Brilliant if you'd asked me. My fella was working but would be off work soon so I decided to call him.

[Fella]: Hello, hotel reception
[Pete]: Hello, this is Pete I was informed that you had a big package for me
[Fella]: Oh, I do
[Pete]; Is it long and...hard?
[Fella]: It is, do you want me to bring it
[Pete]: That would be wonderful, thank you. When might I expect it
[Fella]: I will have it over in about an hour
[Pete]: Thank you, I'll be looking forward to it

*click*

After the phone call I was feeling really good about myself, still giggling, I sat down on the sofa. Feeling a little tired, I then laid down just for a little while.

Next morning I wake up, bad back, nausia, headache and my face stuck to a copy of Vogue. Then it dawned on me. I checked my phone, 8 unanswered phone calls all around 2 am and a text.

I tried to deliver a package but you weren't there, please call this number to arrange another delivery date

Bugger.

Books a-go-go

I haven't been reading a lot and what got me started again some years ago was the Harry Potter books. Before that I had read maybe 2 books since I graduated. They were both by John Grisham. The first was The Testament which I enjoyed a lot and the other was A Time To Kill. I had read A Time To Kill earlier that year for my graduation paper and enjoyed it, still it had that feeling of school about it. Like I had to read it, which I did, but I wanted to read it again without that pressure. It was good, it was heartbreaking and I genuinely liked it. The movie, although not completely faithful to the book, I liked too.

Still after school I had grown tired of reading and the thing that changed that was Harry Potter and Miss Rowling. They brought the magic (so to speak) back into reading again. I can't say I read a lot of books after that, but I did read the Harry Potter books more than once, well except for the Order of the Phoenix which was just so long, boring and at loss for a better word, dreadful. Especially after The Goblet of Fire which was my favorite.

Now almost, and when I say almost I mean, 10 years later I've properly started reading and I did something I've not done since I had to in school. Read two books at the same time. Frankly I've never understood why one would do that. It's just indulgent and perhaps a little insulting to the author? Well, I don't know. Just the thought of having to follow two stories at once, no matter how complicated or not, they are because with books I've always thought more about it than when watching a movie. Well so I've finally caved and done just that.

Two books at once and I'm not sure it's working for me. Not the way it was intended anyway. You see, I started reading The name of the Rose by Umberto Eco a book that I really really wanted to read. I really really want to like it too, but I'm not sure I do. That being said I've only made it to page 81 which isn't that far. What's so frustrating about it is that I'm not sure what it is that I'm not liking, if it's the style, the characters (William is a tad annoying) or if it's the story. The last being a big problem if that's the case. I just can't put my finger on it.

So last night I started another book. Dinah mentioned it on her blog about Canada along with some other books. Naturally I just HAD to read it, and rightly so. It's absolutely brilliant. It's Will Fergusons Beauty Tips From Moose Jaw: Excursions in the Great Weird North. It's so brilliant in fact that I'm about one third into it already. Really really good book Dinah thank you for recommending it! There is SO MUCH to learn about Canada and I'm still learning - who knew!

Still, this two books at a time project is not working out the way I planned it. I just wanted something else for a while and then go back to The Name of the Rose but now I don't really want to. I have sidetracked it for something else, and I fear that once done with Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw, I'll just hop on to some other book.

How do you do it? How do you keep focus, and how do you finish those slightly heavy books that you aren't motivated to finish? - Not to say I don't like The Name of the Rose but frankly I don't know.

Can't get blue Monday out of my head

The world is lacking of brilliant blue foods so I have taken upon me to make these blue Mondays even more blue. Simply by serving you up a nice dish of blue food.

Like last week, we here at Sayhey are introducing you to a breakfast meal. This time it's vanilla yoghurt with muesli - and of course it's blue.

I've never been good at keeping flowers alive. At some point, really quickly, I lose interest and simply forget to water them. This usually kills whatever flower I have and then it gets an unceremonious funeral by simply dumping it in the trash. I think the only plants I've ever successfully kept alive for a long period of time were cacti.

Honestly I don't really care that much about flowers. I mean, they do look lovely and do make it more homey. Still potted plants or flowers have never been my thing, there is simply too much work in keeping them alive and I don't have some strapping young lad watering my plants and doing my laundry for me. So I've avoided them, occasionally buying cut flowers for vases as that's really more my thing. The problem is, there is no flower shop around here that sells cut flowers, the closest thing is petrol stations and I'm not going down that route. They are always really bad.

Well my parents gave me this flower when I moved in here.



My mother says she bought it for me because it was easy to keep alive, and still maintains that it wasn't because it smells like cat pee. I decided against febreezing it, laminating it and whatever other suggestions you had for me. In the end the flowers fell off and it stopped smelling.

So the other day I was going to water it for the first time in probably 4 weeks and I noticed it has changed. Not in the about to die kind of way, no no, I asked at a flower shop down the street. It's in the feeling so good that it wants to be even bigger and more beautiful that it already is.

I am in shock to be honest, because I've been nothing but unkind to it thinking I'd probably dump in the bin bag in a couple of weeks. This is how it looks now.



I still have no idea what kind of flower it is but it seems to work for me. I just wish it wouldn't smell so bad when it's in full bloom.

I'll show you mine, if you show me yours

I have always been facinated by movies and television. When I was a mere kitten playing around in the rejects of my mothers wardrobes she took me to watch Disney Classics at the movies. It started when I was very young so I suppose I must have been one of those brats I hate so much today. When I started making money of my own I also started going to the movies with friends and subsequently met a guy who is my best friend today. He was also very much into movies and that's when I started buying them when they came out. Back then it was VHS tapes, shoddy quality, almost as bad as when you record a movie from TV today IDV.

As time goes by, things become outdated and you must move on unless you want to live in the past. So I started buying DVDs and when one I had on VHS was heaviely discounted I would buy it and give the VHS tape to someone who would appreciate it. I still have a few VHS tapes that I haven't been able to find on DVD but they are packed away in a box somewhere back home at my parents house.

Well, enough back story. I harassed IDV about showing the contents of his DVD racks and he did. Since we all know the saying "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" I've decided to show you mine too. So I give you, the contents of my DVD racks.

Well you may not recognise a lot of them as they have a tendency to translate the titles into Danish here. Some of the Danish titles don't even make sense. I have about 5 Danish movies, the rest are in fact foreign.

I got so embarrassed, you know it's one thing listening to it in your house but out in public. My finger couldn't hit forward fast enough.

How to do....stuff!

A while ago I went out and bought new furniture. You see, since I moved in here in December last year I've been missing a lot of stuff. Coffee tables, a rug for under my dining room table and a desk and chair for my office/guest room. All I had in my office/guest room was one of those sofas that you can pull out and it becomes a bed (let it be noted that it's a rubbish one and I'm thinking of buying a new one).

I didn't have a desk and chair because I threw out the old one when I moved. The reason, it was ugly. So the search went on to find some kool and affordable furniture and since I've been to Ikea - one of the most horrid experiences of my life, I ended up at Ilva. Lovely shop, nice furniture well at least the Danish branches I've been to. Still buying stuff from Ilva means you have to assemble it yourself but how hard can it be assembling a desk and chair? It certainly couldn't be a nightmare... could it?



Attach bracket C to bracket B using screw 8. Well I have already used bracket C and there never were any screw 8. Screw you! Of course once the metal structure was assembled it was a hoot to dance in. I got to do Physical, Human Nature and 9 to 5. You have no idea how much cardboard, flamingo (I like the Danish word for polystyrene), plastic and assorted wrapping there was left over once it was done. It was a nightmare. I had a choice, either throw it out over my mock balcony or carry the 4 loads down through the basement, one at a time. Naturally I went for door number 1 saving 3 trips through the less than charming basement.

It turns out it wasn't all for nothing, it does look fabulous.



Turns out, I'm a little bit handy with a screwdriver, and oh boy I felt manly when I was done. I almost craved a beer, so naturally I made myself a pink cocktail. I'm all better now.

Does it remind you of something like this..?

Danish Stuff

There have been a few requests to post something Danish, but I have been holding off on it for a while. Mostly because I've been so busy with my catfight (see how good I'm getting at this Blogger business! I can link to my own entries) and life in general but also because I was looking for the right angle. However the wait is over, as I'm introducing the excitement of Danish

MILK

Isn't it exciting? I'm all giddy myself, because milk is such an exciting thing. You can make hot chocolate from it, milkshakes, smoothies, breakfast meals and sauces. It's are used in baked goods too. Oh the joy of milk!


My milk of choice is the 1,5% milk, a low-fat milk or in Danish "Letmælk". Let being Light and Milk being Mælk. Here are how our "Letmælk" cartons look from all 4 sides. Drum roll please!


Notice that this is an Arla Ekspres Letmælk. Ekspres means that the milk has to be in the shop sooner than the other types of milk. Or at least they are trying to brand this milk as more fresh than other.

There is the red cow which is their new brand logo after they formed a union with the other Scandinavian dairy companies.

Arla is what came of that merger. Isn't this carton a beauty?

Here is a sideview of the carton which has information about what's going on within the many good causes Arla sponsors. This particular carton is informing us that there has been formed a special Football (Soccer if you are geographically challenged tee-hee-hee) school in association with DBU - The Danish Ballplaying Union if you translate it directly. It's informing us that if we want to train like the players on the Danish National Football (Soccer) Team you should attend this Football (you know..) school.

There are no missing kids on this baby!







Where the other side was the news section, this is the information section. This is where you learn just how fantastic milk is. All the pros and cons and those in between. You learn that there is Protein, Riboflavin, Fat, Vitamin B12 (I thought that was a bomber plane from WW2), Calcium, Selen and so much more.

There is even a table telling you exactly how much is in 100 gram of this fantastic product and there is even a little instruction on how you fold the carton together when you've emptied it.

You know, so it takes up less space in the binbag.




This is exactly the same as the first angle I showed you. So I'll mention a little controversy here.

Notice the cap? Well it's only in the last maybe 5 years or so they've added the cap. Because it's was so much easier than the old way of opening it. Do you remember it? You would sort of twist the "wings" back and pull forward hoping it would do what it was supposed to do. Most of the time it didn't so you would have to pick at it, ruining the carton. Not anymore, they've capped it!

Well Arla has a contract with a company called Tetrapak who makes the cartons and caps. It's been going great back West but here in the Eastern part of the country they've botched up the cap system. Over here we just can't open the caps. They are too tight. So they had to put on the juice caps that has that pully thing inside and that didn't work either because the caps are still too tight. We just can't get our milk over here. Arla has apologised, forced Tetrapak to come up with a solution. We are still waiting.. That god I don't drink much milk anyway.

Taa-dah!

Well don't get too excited, we've only gotten through my favorite milk. We have other types and instead of going through them from every angle I'll just do this.

This is the Whole milk version. Sødmælk in Danish. The one with the most fat. The carton is exactly like my favorite milk except as you can see, it's got a darker blue.

I don't think I've ever had this. My parents were very insistant that we would only drink the other milk.

I suppose it would be really fat, almost like cream?

This is Kærnemælk or Buttermilk. I don't remember if this is the old carton but I'm fairly sure they haven't changed that one as it's a special product that doesn't sell as well as the other kinds.

We used to have this one in the house from time to time when I lived with my parents. My mother would insist we had it once a week. My brother who at the time I can remember was 17 and flatly refused. I on the other hand didn't mind it. Today I wouldn't drink it if someone paid me.

Then there is Skummetmælk or Skim Milk. The only difference to the first cartons is that this one is gray.

I've never had this milk, to me it would be like drinking water with chalk in it.

Then there is the Minimælk or mini milk? I don't know, it has less fat that low fat milk and more fat that the skim milk. A compromise I suppose for those who don't like chalk and think low fat is still too much fat.

The carton is a little different from the others and has a combination colour of blue and gray.

Following all these, there are hundreds of/or tens of different local milks who have their own individual designs and are only sold in selected local shops around the country. You see, Denmark is a dairy country and every region has a different flavour (apparently). Like with beer and wine I suppose. On top of that, we have the ecological milks which have a different design as well. I could go on forever about this, you see, but I won't. I will leave you with this very fabulous look of the ecological low fat milk from the regions of southern Jutland.

Are we there yet?

Today is a day of celebration. It is the day where Kylie recieves the 'Order of Arts' a French honour for her contribution to the enrichment of French culture. As everyone knows, Kylie has had an appartment in Paris for years and lived there with her ex boyfriend French actor Oliver Martinez (some of you may remember Sparkly Tim posing as Ollie at his blogiversary) [I'm getting pretty good at this linky linky stuff - see!] when she was kicking cancer bum. Plus she's been hugely popular in France for a number of years and enjoyed many a glass of red wine and lunches at Café de Fleur in Paris.

Although this is not the reason we here at Sayhey are celebrating KYLIE. No, she's already getting an OBE from The Queen - finally! Somebody give her a real award! Seriously though, an OBE is a major achievement and a huge honour and I have it from a source very close to Kylie herself that she is incredibly honoured by both. We here at Sayhey are however just really really excited about the fact that Kylie kicks off her major KYLIEX2008 tour tonight at the Bercy in Paris, France and are only slightly concerned that Aussie dates haven't been announced yet as she will indeed swing by Copenhagen on June 8.

With all the secrecy around any major tour, and all the anticipation going on. Speculations and conspiracies on different Kylie forums (including the one that has the same name as my blog for some reason) with supposed spoilers of the show flying left and right, our lovely Miss K decided to give us a little sneak preview of what we might expect from this elaborate and overly fabulous tour she's kicking off tonight. So hold on to your knickers girls and say hey to the whole group, Tumbles, Sean Fitzmagic, Michael Rooney, Ma Baker, The MD, Kyles and team.



Miss K has been very very busy making sure that we are all going to have a fabulous time. So put on those dancing shoes and start warming up.

As I have grown tired of the incompetence and instability of Blogdrive I've gone to the dark side. Jumped on the bandwagon, sold my soul to the devils at Google, cashed in if you will.

This is not something I'm proud of but hopefully we will all be able to access my blog a little more often now that I'm no longer a slave to Blogdrive.
